This Mandalorian just… walked into town like he’d gone out to check the vaporators and wanted to make it back inside before the suns got too high.

“I hate bars on New Year’s Eve,” a voice beside her mumbled.

“They are the absolute worst,” she replied as she turned around, the last word catching in her throat as she caught a glimpse of the man who belonged to that voice. He was blond, tall, and broad. Even with his thick wool coat still on, he looked like a guy who was built to push through the crowd and be met with no resistance. He turned to look at her, and smiled. Of course he had a beautiful smile that, unlike Jack’s, crinkled his eyes and looked utterly genuine. Like her basic observation was the wittiest thing he’d ever heard.

“We’ll eventually reach the front,” he pointed out.

“Sounds like an awfully big assumption.”

Fic Rec: Star Trek

Yes, I've become addicted to the shiny new Star Trek and it's awesomeness, why do you ask? *lol*

At least looking for fic gives me something to do during my boring workday, and there is more and more shiny fic each day. But, I thought I'd throw this out, because anybody on my flist who wants to start with some shiny new Star Trek fic (and if you haven't seen the movie, go. Amazing. How much of a crush do I have on Karl Urban and Chris Pine?) you should totally start here.

chaletian has written a series of stories now loving known as the village!verse and they involve wonderful things like Chekov and Sulu being bookies, imagining the Enterprise as part of telenovela drama, Kirk attempting to give a birds and the bees talk, McCoy being so delightfully grumpy and McCoy-esque, and just general all around slice of life amusement.

Go, they're wonderful.

I am so, incredibly, utterly bored.

This is the worst time of year at work. In the fall, we're busy. In the winter, we're less busy but still constant and at least throwing holiday parties that get me out of my office. In spring, we're busy.

In summer? I've got nothing.

Seriously, dead. I get maybe three emails the entire day that need answering. Other than that, we've started printout on wordfinds for the office. Currently I'm working on 'Currencies of the World'. And trying not to freeze while doing it because my office should have icicles on the window, it's so cold. One day I'm going to build a trash fire just to warm the place up.

No, so it's completely dead, which means that each of us in the office spends some time wandering around, camping out in someone else's office to find entertainment and conversation. Which currently has meant that people will come in to play in my latest toy -- a talking Chekov from a Burger King kid's meal that spazzula was kind enough to let me take -- although I think it was mostly so that her kid would press the button continuously for days *lol* Regardless! He now sits on my desk and people come in and want to play with it.

Which at least has led to some interesting conversations in my office, including but not limited to:

1. The One Where a Co-Worker and I Mock Bad Fanfic and are Happy new!Trek Fan Seem To Be Older And More Entertaining Than Harry Potter Fans.

2. The One Where Another Co-Worker Laments That He Doesn't Want To See The New Trek Film Cause of Too Much "Boom Boom Boom" (which leads to another co-working coming in going 'what boom boom boom?' and we proceed to have an entire conversation where the term 'boom boom boom' is said in almost every sentence)

3. The One Where A VP Doesn't Believe That Anakin Skywalker's Late Name Was Skywalker, and Thought He Was In Star Trek (this is also the conversation where the VP wanted to know why, when Star Wars was dubbed in German, did they only dub the humans and not the Wookie or the Ewoks. To which my actual boss just looks at him and goes '... because they weren't speaking English')

4. The One Where My Boss Asks Me Had I Ever Heard Of This Thing Called Fanfiction, Because Apparently It's All Over The Internet and They Put Weird People Together But Don't Make Any Money Off Of it.

I'm actually scared to think of what might come up today -- but you know, at least that makes it a little more interesting *lol*

Drinking coffee at 10:30 at night is probably not the smartest choice that I could make *lol* But if I was going to sit through the MTV movie awards, I wanted something to drink. Should I have picked liquor over caffeine? Probably.

But seriously, MTV viewers/whatnot? We get it. Y'all like Twilight. Y'all REALLY like Twilight. Oh, there's a category with a Twilight character in it? Is it going to win -- IT'S TOTES GONNA WIN!! *sigh* Save for best song, which instead goes to Hannah Montana.

I'm not sure which is the bigger evil.

Oh well -- I'll admit, the only reason I turned it on was because they said that Chris Pine would be one of the presenters and he's fantastically delicious. Captain Kirk, you are a hottie, and you and Karl Urban have pulled me into a shiny new fandom that I totally didn't need, but totally didn't resist either.

I mean, how am I supposed to resist you, Chris, when you come on screen with a snug little Mr. Rogers cardigan on looking academically rumpled? I can't, because he's just that damn fine.
