It's tv review time. Why? Because it's either this or do the laundry. We see which one wins out *lol*
SG1 10.03 The Pegasus Project
I hate crossovers with a firey vengeance.
Let me start by saying that I'm nothing more than a 'hey, this is on' fan of SG1. I started watching it on the marathons on Monday for the sole fact that I could understand what
spazzula was talking about about some characters and to better understand the universe that SGA is set in. I glance at it for the pretty that is Daniel and the vast amusement that Vala gives me, and that's about it.
Which leads me to the - I hate crossovers with a firey vengeance. I don't want to feel like I have to watch another show to know what's going on in my show. Things like Critical Mass - I don't want to know that I'm missing out on something because it's set at the SGC and I'm all 'wtf is going on?' and 'who the fuck are these people?'. It makes me an irritated little fangirl that I can watch every ep of my series and still not get some of it because they insist on crossing over. I'm probably in the minority in this point because of the 'one show shiny, two shows SHINIER!' mentality, but whatever. But I watched TPP because it came on before and because I am quite quickly developing a very very big love for Vala.
But after watching TPP? Mitchell is an ass. And maybe it's just cause yeah, I dig Rodney in all of his arrogant, sure of himself, smartass glory and it bugs me when outside of the command structure mock him - cause yeah, the people on Atlantis do it mostly with love, or at least like. He saves their asses, life is good. But Mitchell's just an ass to him and I just kept hoping that a puddle jumper would drop on his head a la Wizard of Oz while someone told him to shut the hell up, Rodney was just trying to help.
And I know that the lemon bit was supposed to be funny, but I just found it mean.
Long story short - keep my SGA on SGA so I know what's going on. Some of us only watch one of the shows on a regular basis.
SGA: 3.03 Irresistable
You know, I needed a good giggle. Although I'll admit, I liked it much better when I watched it on the repeat at 12 than the first time around at 10. The first time around I felt like I was watching Duet - that was the first ep I ever saw and I was uncomfortable with how they treated Rodney and the whole bit, couldn't even WATCH the dinner scene cause it just made me uncomfortable. Not until after watching the first season and getting used to the character dynamics did I get the humor of it and love watching it with a giggle.
I was uncomfortable the first time around, but I couldn't quite place my finger on it. I love Richard Kind - he's always cracked me up. Was a big Mad About You fan back in the day. But after watching it all the way through, and getting used to the dynamics of the ep - and assuring myself that yes, everything does turn out alright in the end - I could watch the repeat with a giggle. Even if it was a nervous giggle when Shep drug Carson away in the jumper and the man started crying through detox. I love Carson, love him dearly, and I just want to see him kick ass - just once! - instead of crying in the jumper. Just... kick a little bit of ass? Please?
Oh, and the Batman exchange? *snickers* Of course Rodney would correct the Eartha Kitt - Julie Newmar continuity. Which then just led to memories of To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything ~ Julie Newmar, and that movie cracks me up because Wesley Snipes is one ugly woman, but Patrick Swayze is disturbingly convincing and pretty with the bouffant and boobs. Which then led to weird Wong Foo/SGA thoughts that creeped even me out, but I digress *lol*
Ronon being someone else's puppy for a change? Now THAT gave me a giggle. Teyla being all 'I hope I didn't offend him' - yep, that gave me a giggle. Rodney 'testing' it - for the good of his research, of course! - gave me a serious giggle. Don't care if that should've been creepy and imposing, but it made me laugh because hell, who of us WOULDN'T have wanted to try it out on at least one person there? And added to the little back and forth with Weir and Carson with the 'burn it - now' and the Ronon & Teyla wall of 'wtf are you doing?" Yeah, quite a giggle.
But yeah, can totally appreciate the giggle quality after knowing nothing malicious was going to happen or whatnot.
*sigh* And now I want to write what Laura was doing during the whole 'smitten with Richard Kind' deal on Atlantis. I'm thinking some sort of Dance of the Seven Veils with Miko and Heightmeyer.
And now
spazzula needs to get home so we can watch SGA... since I kinda forgot to tell her when it finished unpacking last night *looks sheepish again* Besides, I want to hear what she thinks. *lol*
