"Carson?"
"Aye, I'm here."
Laura Cadman slowly opened her eyes, cringing at the pain throbbing at the base of her skull. She reached up with her free hand to touch what hurt, but thought better of it before her fingers got past the pillow. "I... god my head hurts..." She shifted to look at Carson. Her sight was still a bit fuzzy and she blinked a couple of times, trying to fix that. "What happened?"
"You were attacked," Carson answered, gently tightening his hold on her other hand. "What's the last thing you remember?"
"I..." Laura bit slightly on her bottom lip, trying to clear her head enough to think back. "We were on MP4-376," she answered after a momentary pause. "Major Lorne had just called the teams back to the gate when we heard a dart overhead. At least, I heard a dart overhead." She swallowed hard, cringing slightly. "I dove behind a stump after someone yelled about seeing the beam. And then..." she trailed off. "And then I was here," she said quietly.
"The beam set down a Wraith team," Carson explained. "Why they set down a team and didn't just try to grab the lot of you up, I don't know. What they think happened was you ended up on the wrong end of a Wraith stunner."
"But... I don't feel like I was stunned."
Carson smiled. "You weren't, lass. You must have missed the blast, but you did get hit by the back of the stunner. Major Lorne says that you must have turned around to shoot at the same time the Wraith swung after the blast missed. Gave you a nasty cut on the back of your skill and a concussion that we've been monitoring for the past few hours."
"Have I been unconcious that long?"
"No," Carson replied with a shake of his head. "You've dozed in and out, mumbled a wee bit, asked for water, nothing terribly out of the ordinary but it let us know you were fine."
Laura groaned. "I don't feel fine."
"You will." Carson smiled and reached over to push her hair away from her face. "But I'm glad to see you feeling well enough to complain," he added, slipping his hand down to cradle her cheek.
Laura chuckled, again grimacing slightly at the throb at the base of her skull. "Can't get rid of me that easily." She let her head rest against his hand and sighed tiredly. "Carson..." she said quietly. "I'm tired."
"I know," he answered. "Close your eyes and rest a bit."
"Will you..."
"I'm not going anywhere, love."
