The West Wing 7.20 The Last Hurrah
It really is such a shame that the show is finally getting addictive again after a couple of rather sad seasons (season 5 and beginning of season 6, I'm looking at you) but all good things must come to an end. I really liked the focus on Vinick at the beginning of this ep - and actually throughout the entire ep. It feeds into what made the show so great in the beginning, the fantasy of what the government SHOULD be. Someone with his qualifications and experience SHOULD get another chance to serve his country in an area that he is extremely talented in even after actual politics would put him out to pasture. I wouldn't have been keen with him as the VP because that's just too fantasy for me, but then I never thought that that offer was real anyway. I figured it would be a cabinet position or an ambasadorship, and I was thrilled to see him offered State. That's what I wish there were more of - politicians who were interested in serving their countires and not just primping themselves (Congresswoman who tried to give the smackdown to a Capitol Police officer who didn't recognize her, I'm looking at you). Vinick is the Republican we all want just like Bartlet is the Democrat we all want. Oh, if only it really was like television.
Still not all that hot on Santos, though Mrs. Santos cracks me up. I mean, seriously, who would want their entire street blocked off by Secret Service (who are actually quite enjoyable people as long as you're not aiming for the President). Poor Helen, having to get used to having an entire staff. Still not sure if Donna would actually be qualified to be her CoS, but hey, fantasy. I'm willing to suspend an awful lot of belief for these last few days. But her fretting over the schools and then fretting over the house and where they're going to live... oh, I love Helen. Now if only Santos was this interesting.
One request people - give us more Bartlet people before we end. Give me CJ, and Josh, and Bartlet and Toby... for God's sake give me more Toby. I miss Toby.
